Mortal Kombat 2011 Preview Review

Unlike its predecessors, Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat 3, this year’s release will feature the new, gore-inspiring “X-ray move”, a brutal move you can perform on your opponent that will reveal muscles rupturing, bones cracking, organs splitting and blood spluttering every time you pull off a clinical hit on your opponent.  In a move that is sure to delight gore-seekers everywhere, at the moment of impact, gameplay will slow down and the cameras will zoom in to the area of impact, and gamers will be treated to the full glory of the devastating blow they have unleashed on their opponent, seeing firsthand the gruesome internal damage they have caused with their awesome move. Such a move by the game’s makers, NetherRealm Studios, are sure to thrill the legions of bloodletting gamers who will be clamouring to get their hands on this, the most X-Rated of fighting games seen so far on our screens.

2.5D Gameplay

Mortal Kombat is well known as the pioneer of violent and bloody fight finishes that seem to have found a cult following in die-hard gamers across all platforms. What’s more, the awesome X-Ray effects are sure to be enhanced further by another stunning development, the inclusion of 3D graphics with gameplay exclusively on the 2D plane (more accurately termed 2.5D).

Mortal Kombat 9 Game Console Platforms

Mortal Kombat 2011 can be played in single-player mode or multiplayer mode, and will be available on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, while a PC version is still being evaluated.  Just like the other Mortal Kombat games, the primary gameplay will be the familiar one-on-one fighting, except this time it will run at a lightning quick 60 frames per second (fps).

Mortal Kombat 9 Storyline

The storyline of Mortal Kombat continues from Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, where the principal character ‘Raiden’ is about to be killed by ‘Shao Khan’ and transmits mental images to his earlier self. From here, it goes back to the events in Mortal Kombat 1 where ‘Raiden’ still doesn’t know what’s happening, but gets an idea that something terrible is about to happen and then the game spans across all the previous Mortal Kombat storylines with a more enlightened ‘Raiden’ retelling the story and changing the course of events to prevent the destruction of all realities.

Mortal Kombat 9 New Features

Mortal Kombat fans have clamoured for the 2D fighting plane featured in the new Mortal Kombat to remain, and the developers have taken note of this. What’s different though is that the characters will be rendered in 3D, allowing you to experience the game in what’s known as 2.5D mode.  There are other new features as well, like four attack buttons, each one representing one of the character’s limbs.  Then there is also a “super-meter” included to enhance the overall gaming experience, which can be charged in various ways, like landing hits on your opponents, accomplishing a combo or pulling off a special move.  The super-meter slowly builds up to enhance a special attack, interrupt an opponent’s combo, or else you can make your character perform the super combo, called the “X-Ray move” that reveals the opponents internal parts with bones and organs broken or shattered in all of their gruesome glory.

Mortal Kombat 9 Gameplay Modes

This hard-core fighting game can be played in online mode, fighting mode, Tag-Team mode and the Challenge Tower mode.  The online mode promises to make this game highly engaging, as up to 8 players can view other fights and challenge the winner in the “King of the Hill” game mode.  Spectators can also rate the game in a forum setup, providing a great new way to interact with other players.  The 4-player Tag-Team mode is an entirely new feature, where 2 players can team up against another 2, entering in and out of the fighting stage to perform “assist attacks” or “entry attacks” throughout the battle.  Meanwhile, the familiar Challenge Tower mode is a single-player mode that closely resembles the arcade mode.

Mortal Kombat 9 Game Studio

Mortal Kombat 2011 is developed by NetherRealm Studios, which was previously known as WB Games Chicago and is the first of the Mortal Kombat series to be exclusively published under the Warner Bros. label.
