Mickey Mouse is the star of Disney’s new action packed platform game Epic Mickey for the Nintendo Wii console, on a journey through Wasteland – an alternate reality world consisting of Disney’s forgotten creative art efforts.
Epic Mickey was recently released in the UK (25/11/2010) and contains some role-playing game elements in the mostly open ended platform game which permits players to devise their own solutions for passing through and completing levels. Epic Mickey is built upon a morality system similar to that featured in the game Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, whereby the gameplay environment changes depending upon the specific actions of the player, for example with different power ups, side quests and alliances being made available based on the different choices made by the gamer.
Mickey Mouse wields the power to change his world environment using the magic paint brush which works in a Paint Thinner mode to erase world objects and a Paint mode to draw in objects – helping the player to eliminate obstacles using the paint thinner for example, or befriending enemies by revitalizing them with the strokes of paint and likewise destroying them if afflicted with the paint thinner.
Mickey travels through different sections of Wasteland, by traversing 2D side-scrolling levels based on his classic cartoon shorts including clips such as Steamboat Willie and Clock Cleaners.
Mickey can also avoid engaging in boss battles if particular actions are taken throughout the game, enabling a dynamism and open end feel to the game.
