The powerful yet compact 10x zoom lens means that the Canon IXUS 1000 HS is the thinnest of any super-zoom camera ever released. Users are afforded smooth recording of 1080p movies thanks to the Full HD video capture features installed in the design. This model also features the HS system, the second model in the IXUS range to do so. It combines DIGIC 4 processing with a highly sensitive, 10.0 megapixel CMOS senor to perfect amazing quality images and high-speed shot capability.

Canon IXUS 1000 Advanced Performance in a Unique Design

A perfectly balanced mix of portability and performance, the Canon IXUS 1000 HS Digital Camera’s advanced feature set assists users to make that perfect shot without fail, every time. Canon’s pioneering optical expertise is showcased exquisitely with the compact 10x optical zoom lens, offering users the benefits of super-zoom together with exceptional portability. Its ultra-slim profile affords users the chance to slip it into a pocket or carry bag with ease.

Users can capture extremely sharp images anywhere, anytime, no matter if the conditions are dark or if the zoom is at full extension, thanks to the efficient optical image stabilizer built into the Canon IXUS 1000 unique design, together with highly advanced lens-shift technology. This ability makes the Canon IXUS 1000 the perfect instrument for capturing consistent, defined and blur-free images. Meanwhile, the newly incorporated Handheld Night Scene mode utilizes new technology that combines several high speeds shots taken in succession to produce just one perfectly exposed picture, making it easy for anyone to take high quality night shots without the need for a tripod.

The Canon HS System – Sensitivity & Speed Combined

The fully integrated HS System is incorporated into the Canon IXUS 1000 HS Digital Camera to guarantee superb performance in the toughest of conditions, making the most of its DIGIC 4 Processor and the highly sensitive 10.0mp CMOS sensor to produce images of premium quality. The Canon IXUS 1000 HS is also capable of supporting a max ISO speed of up to 3200 at full resolution, meaning users can capture natural ambience of almost any poorly lit environment without the need for a flash.

The other key advantage of the HS System is that non-stop, high-speed action can be recorded constantly until the memory card becomes full or the shutter button is released. With continuous shooting of 3.7 shots per second at 10.0MP resolution and an incredible 8.8 shots per second at 2.5MP resolution when the camera is put into high-speed burst mode, anyone who trusts in the Canon IXUS 1000 HS Digital Camera will never miss a beat ever again. Another great addition to this unique model in the IXUS range is the Best Image Selection, which automatically selects the best image from a choice of five high speed, 2.5MP shots, something that allows users to reduce the amount of time it takes to flick through images trying to work out which ones to delete. Lastly, the Super Slow Motion Movie mode allows for extremely fast, action-packed scenes to be recorded, capturing frames at a rate of 240 per second (240fps), while its play back speed of 30 fps provides a dramatic perspective on the subject in question.

Canon IXUS 1000 Quality & Intelligence

Staying true to the heritage of the IXUS range, the Canon IXUS 1000 HS comes in a tightly compact body, housing the most advanced feature set of the range to date, with high technology packed into a sleek and glossy exterior. The full-metal case design provides the exceptional quality that has always been associated with the IXUS range, and it’s even perfectly formed for easy handling as well, its subtle yet angular design assuring all of the controls are always within easy reach.

The PureColor II G LCD screen, incorporating an outer layer made from tempered glass, measures at 7.6 cm and provides a wide viewing angle and high contrast, making it ideal for shooting multiple subjects even at difficult angles. The widescreen display, at 16:9 is perfectly suited for users to play back and frame HD footage in full screen, without any wasted black space at the top and bottom of the screen, all of which makes the Canon IXUS 1000 HS the perfect Full HD movie capture companion.

Beginners to photography can explore their creativity and develop their skills easily with the Canon IXUS 1000 HS, thanks to its range of incorporated technologies that allow for the capture of striking images with ease. For the very best results, use the Smart Auto Scene Detection Technology in all conditions – this technology works to detect the best possible settings from 28 unique variables, which is currently the highest number of possible scenes displayed in the market.

Users also have full control over the flash level with the Smart Flash Exposure feature on the Canon IXUS 1000 HS, which automatically provides the optimum amount of flash needed to guarantee that each shot is perfectly exposed in any situation.

Other features include the Fish-eye Effect, which is able to replicate a fish-eye lens’ distortion and the Miniature Effect, which can change the appearance of subjects to render them much like small-scale models. The Smart Shutter makes self-portraits easier than ever before through the use of Face Detection Technology which can trigger the shutter through the wink of an eye or a smile. Moreover, the Face Self-Timer feature means users can now set the camera to take a photo the moment it recognizes a new face in the frame, which allows the photographer to join the picture easily and with no rushing around needed.

The Canon IXUS 1000 HS also hosts a wide ranging functionality that adds up to make this super-slim camera one of the very best of its kind ever produced – Simple, wireless content transfer is supported by Eye-Fi connection, allowing users to remotely upload their photos to websites that support image sharing such as the Canon iMAGE GATEWAY.

Posted by SuperStoreSearch Team on Tuesday, 30th November, 2010.

Pentax 645D DSLR Camera

PENTAX unveils the long awaited 645D – the 40 megapixel medium format 44×33-millimeter CCD Digital SLR camera, producing an impressively large 7264×5440 pixels ultra-high resolution photos which are suitable for the biggest of print sizes.

PENTAX also announced that the 645D medium format camera has received an AMERICAN PHOTO MAGAZINE EDITOR’S CHOICE 2010 award in the November/December issue.

In the current issue, AMERICAN PHOTO magazine states that “PENTAX’s first medium-format digital camera is a bombshell, delivering 40-megapixel image quality for radically less money than comparable medium-format systems.  How does it do this?  By borrowing core technologies from the APS-C-format PENTAX K-7 DSLR.  In fact, it will seem instantly familiar to any PENTAX DSLR owner.”

“The 645D’s gigantic 44×33-millimeter Kodak CCD boasts two-thirds more pixels than a full-frame 24-megapixel DSLR and produces 23×30-inch native image size at 240dpi, ideal for big prints.  The body itself offers superb balance and ergonomics, a light but tough magnesium-steel alloy frame with extensive weather sealing, and automatic sensor-dust cleaning, a first in a medium-format digital camera.   It also features built-in automatic correction for a given PENTAX 645 lens’s optical characteristic.”

PENTAX 645D Original Press Release:

March 2010: HOYA CORPORATION PENTAX Imaging Systems Division is pleased to announce the launch of the PENTAX 645D lens-interchangeable, medium-format digital SLR camera. Thanks to the incorporation of a large image sensor, equal in performance to professional-standard digital camera backs, this high-performance model delivers super-high-resolution images with approximately 40 effective megapixels. It also offers outstanding dependability and superb operability and maneuverability to make outdoor shooting effortless and comfortable for demanding photographers.

The PENTAX 645D has been developed to provide super-high-resolution images produced by large image sensors — something previously available only on professional models — to serious landscape and outdoor photographers. It combines exceptional image quality with excellent maneuverability and outstanding reliability to simplify professional-level outdoor shooting. Thanks to the incorporation of a large, high-performance image sensor (measuring 44mm by 33mm) and PENTAXoriginal image-processing technology, it produces extra-sharp, super-high-resolution images with approximately 40 effective megapixels. It features remarkable durability and dependability, thanks to its lightweight but solidly built body featuring a magnesium-steel-alloy frame, reinforced glass LCD panel protectors and a reliable dustproof, weather-resistant construction. In addition, it is designed to be compatible with the majority of the existing PENTAX 645 system, so that current PENTAX 645-series camera users can take advantage of their valuable assets, including high-performance smc PENTAX 645 interchangeable lenses.

Major Features

Unprecedented image quality

  • Super-high-resolution images made possible by approximately 40 effective megapixels
The PENTAX 645D incorporates a high-performance CCD image sensor produced by Kodak. It measures 44mm by 33mm, and is approximately 1.7 times larger than its 35mm-format counterparts. Thanks to approximately 40 effective megapixels, it assures a wide dynamic range to faithfully reproduce the prevailing ambience and the sense of depth in super-high-resolution images that are rich in gradation and truthful in texture description. In order to bring out the full potential of the lens and the image sensor and assure the highest level of image-resolving power, the CCD unit is designed with no low-pass filters.egapixels
  • High-performance, high-speed PRIME II imaging engine
The PENTAX 645D features the acclaimed, PENTAX-original PRIME (PENTAX Real Image Engine) II as its imaging engine. Thanks to its high-speed dataprocessing capacity and new algorithm exclusively programmed for medium-format digital SLR cameras, this high-performance imaging engine produces super-highquality images rich in gradation and faithful in color reproduction, while allowing speedy data transmission of large-volume image data — even RAW-format images as large as some 50MB per file.
  • 14-bit A/D converter for faithful conversion of image data to digital signals
The PENTAX 645D features a high-performance A/D converter, which faithfully converts the large volume of analog image data output by the large CCD image sensor to digital signals carrying an extensive amount of image data, including resolution and gradation.

Solid, maneuverable body
The PENTAX 645D’s main frame is made of lightweight but strong magnesiumsteel alloy, while the chassis is made of diecast aluminum to minimize the expansion and extension caused by heat and also to optimize kinematic accuracy and thermal stability. The LCD panels — one on the camera’s top panel, another on the back panel — are covered with tempered glass plates for extra protection. The PENTAX 645D’s body is also designed to be a compact and highly maneuverable mediumformat camera, despite the incorporation of such dependable features as a dust-proof, weather-resistant construction with 70 special seals, outstanding cold-resistant performance to assure solid operation at a temperature as low as –10°C, and a newly designed shutter unit with a top shutter speed of 1/4000 second that can withstand as many as 50,000 shutter releases.

Dual SD/SDHC memory card slots
The PENTAX 645D has a pair of memory card slots for the recording of images on both SD and SDHC memory cards. This dual-slot design gives the photographer extra data-storage options: for instance, recorded images can be assigned to different cards according to recording format (such as RAW or JPEG), or one of the cards can be used as the backup of the other. The settings for each memory card slot can be easily made by dedicated button.

Dependable DR II mechanism to minimize dust spots
The PENTAX 645D comes equipped with the highly dependable DR (Dust Removal) II mechanism, which effectively minimizes annoying dust spots on recorded images, even when the lenses are changed in dust-prone outdoor settings. By shifting UV/IR-cut filters placed in front of the CCD image sensor at supersonic speed using a piezoelectric element, this mechanism effectively and efficiently shakes dust off the image sensor. Thanks to the user-friendly dust-alert system, the photographer can check at a quick glance for dust adhering to the image sensor prior to the actual shooting.

Newly designed, high-precision 11-point wide-frame AF sensor
The PENTAX 645D’s new SAFOX IX + wide-frame autofocus system features 11 sensor points (with nine cross-type sensors positioned in the middle) to assure the extra-high-precision focusing demanded of medium-format digital SLR cameras. To develop this sophisticated AF system, the entire optical system was redesigned, at the same time with the addition of the new functionality to analyze and make use of the light sources data in the field of view.

Advanced 77-segment multi-pattern metering
The PENTAX 645D employs a state-of-the-art, 77-segment multi-pattern metering system to assure super-high-accuracy light metering. The exposure accuracy is further enhanced by collecting such additional data as image orientation (horizontal or vertical) and the distance to and magnification of the subject using the sensors installed inside the camera body, with the obtained data incorporated into exposure calculations.

Large, easy-to-see optical viewfinder
Incorporated in the PENTAX 645D’s finder unit, a trapezoid-shaped glass prism not only assures an approximately 98% field of view, but also greatly contributes to the downsizing of the camera body. Coupled with a bright, easy-to-focus Natural- Bright-Matte focusing screen, the PENTAX 645D’s viewfinder offers a large, clear view of the subject.

Custom Image function to create desired visual effects with ease
The PENTAX 645D’s Custom Image function lets the user easily control an image’s finishing touches to more precisely reflect the user’s creative intentions, or to more faithfully reproduce the ambience of the scene. The user can select one of eight modes, including the new Reversal Film mode designed to create images with the colors that are typical of reversal film. In addition, all parameters — such as saturation, hue, contrast, sharpness, key, and highlight/shadow contrast — can be easily adjusted to desired levels, so that the photographer can shoot images with great ease.

Versatile, multi-mode exposure system for faithful reproduction of creative intentions

  • Hyper Program function
The PENTAX 645D’s Hyper Program function allows the user to instantly switch from Programmed AE mode to Shutter- or Aperture-Priority AE mode with a simple turn of the electric dials positioned around the grip. A single push of the green button shifts the exposure mode back to the original Programmed AE mode.
  • Hyper Manual function
When shooting in the Metered Manual mode, the PENTAX 645’s Hyper Manual mode lets the user to instantly set the proper exposure for the subject with a single push of the green button.
  • Sensitivity-Priority mode
The unique Sensitivity-Priority (Sv) mode automatically selects the optimum combination of aperture and shutter speed for the user-selected sensitivity. The sensitivity can be shifted swiftly by electronic dial on the back panel. The variable amount of the ISO could be configured to either 1/2 or 1/3 steps per click.
  • Shutter/Aperture-Priority mode
Taking full advantage of the unique capability of digital cameras for the automatic shifting of sensitivity at any time, the Shutter/Aperture-Priority (TAv) mode automatically selects the most appropriate sensitivity for the user-selected aperture/shutter-speed combination. It allows the user to effortlessly experiment with a greater range of photographic expressions.

Large, easy-to-view 3.0-inch LCD monitor with approximately 921,000 dots
Positioned on the camera’s back panel, a large 3.0-inch color LCD monitor with approximately 921,000 dots provides a clear, bright view of onscreen images and menus. Since its wide-view design allows quick, effortless confirmation of the monitor image from approximately 170 degrees both horizontally and vertically, the photographer has little difficulty shooting images from low and high angles. The LCD monitor is also treated with exclusive AR (Anti-Reflection) coating to minimize reflections on the screen, even in the outdoor locations under bright sunshine.

Long battery life
The PENTAX 645D is powered by a large-capacity, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which can capture approximately 800 images* when fully charged.

Other features

  • HDR (high dynamic range) function to create one composite image with an extra-wide gradation range from three images with different exposures

Top 8 Ways Your Digital Camera Can Make Life Easier

Posted by Mike Wheatley on Thursday, 18th November, 2010.

Cool Digital Cameras

Digital Cameras are just great, don’t you think? For those of us who are old enough to remember the days of old film cameras – Those big, bulky, horrible looking things that required the use of disposable flashes and rolls of sensitive camera film, the answer is almost certainly going to be yes. The advantages of digital cameras are numerous; nowadays they are small and compact, so you can take your camera anywhere at all without being inconvenienced, you can save hundreds and hundreds of photos on your memory card, you don’t have to wait around to get your pictures developed, and if you’re at all competent with a computer you can even edit your pictures!

But did you realise there are a lot more practical uses for your digital camera that will make your life a whole lot easier? Well if not, read on…

8.  Protect Yourself

By snapping a few photos of the existing blemishes in newly rented flats or hire cars, you can save yourself from losing your deposit or being charged unwarranted fees for damage you didn’t cause.

7.  Don’t Get Lost

How many times have you found yourself lost while travelling on holiday in some unfamiliar town or city? If you’re at all unsure of where you’re staying, take a few snaps of landmarks near your parking spot or hotel before you go wandering off. That way, you’ll be able to ask someone local how to find your way back.

6.  Keep Track of the Kids

One of the biggest concerns of any parent is being separated from their kids while in a crowded or unfamiliar place. With your digital camera you can quickly snap a few pictures of them beforehand, so if you do become separated you’ll have a photo to hand you can show to a police man.

5.  Make Digital Notes

A digital camera is a great way to help you remember things. Anytime you see a hairstyle you like, recipes you want to copy or if you need to remember the name of a street, a few pictures will make sure that you never forget.

4.  Put Things Back Together

Anytime you need to take something apart to try and fix it, whether it’s a simple thing like an electric plug or something more complex like your laptop, take a few photos before you start dismantling everything. This way, you’ll have a guide to follow when it comes to putting it all back together.

3.  Use it as a Map

By taking a close up shot of maps at places like amusement parks or large shopping malls, you’ll be able to check your whereabouts anytime, without needing to stop at every information desk to ask.

2.  Record Your Contact Information

There are few things more upsetting than losing your digital camera, along with all of those irreplaceable holiday snaps that you’ll never get to see again. So why not take a photo of your id, such as your passport or something with your phone number and address on it? That way, if you do lose your digital camera and it’s found by an honest soul, they’ll know who to return it to.

1.  Stay in Touch

If you have a digital camera phone, you’ll be able to stay in touch and share the things you see with your friends and family back at home. Whenever you go anywhere, simply take a few photos and send them straight to your friends, or upload them to a social media site and all your loved ones will be able to see what you’re doing, as you’re doing it!

JVC PICSIO Pocket Camcorders, Full HD GC-FM2 & Waterproof GC-WP10 Underwater Camcorders

Posted by SuperStoreSearch Team on Saturday, 6th November, 2010.

JVC Picsio GC-WP10 and GC-FM2 Pocket CamcordersJVC has announced additional models to its pocket camcorder range with the PICSIO GC-FM2, 1080p HD pocket video camera with a 3-inch touchscreen, including a waterproof version, the JVC PICSIO GC-WP10.

Whilst most electronic devices don’t play well with water, JVC has launched these twin pocket video cameras that are virtually identical in specification except that the GC-FM2 is the standard (non-waterproof) model and the GC-WP10 is the water friendly underwater camcorder version, rated to IPX8 standards with a waterproof depth of 3m, which would rule out scuba diving but still sufficient for most holiday-goers on the beach, snorkelling, adverse weather conditions like rain and snow and ideal if you are prone to dropping valuable electronics into puddles, lakes or other bodies of water.

Both JVC PICSIO pocket camcorders feature a 5 megapixel camera onboard for digital still images, a large 3-inch touchscreen display and shoot full HD 1080p video recordings.  There’s 5x digital zoom and digital image stabilizer functionality, face detection and built-in software for video editing and sharing on sites like Facebook, Youtube and Vimeo.

The JVC GC-FM2 and GC-WP10 batteries are charged from USB, and video recordings are stored onto memory cards (sold separately), so recording times are only limited by your memory card capacities, and these pocket camcorders are SDXC compatible on top of the usual SD and SDHC card slot formats.  There’s also support for Eye-Fi cards and there is an iFrame video recording mode – which is a PC and Mac friendly video recording format that makes it easier to edit videos.

New Panasonic Lumix GF2 Micro-Four-Thirds Camera With Full HD

Posted by SuperStoreSearch Team on Thursday, 4th November, 2010.

Panasonic reveals the latest addition to it’s micro G series, the 12.1 megapixel Lumix GF2 micro four thirds camera with interchangeable lenses and 3-inch touchscreen, with 1080i Full HD video recording.

Succeeding the original Lumix GF1, Panasonic says it has created the world’s smallest and lightest digital interchangeable lens compact system camera in the form of the 19% slimmer and 7% lighter Panasonic Lumix GF2 digital camera based on the micro four thirds format.

Panasonic Lumix GF2 Release Date

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2 is due to go on sale in early January 2011 and is expected to have a sale price of around £629.

Micro-Four-Thirds Camera Format Information

The micro-four-thirds (MFT) system camera format was a jointly developed initiative by Panasonic and Olympus to create a more compact alternative to the often bulky Digital SLR cameras.  In contrast to dSLRs, the MFT cameras do not house an internal mirror which helps contribute to a smaller and lighter camera body, and the MFT camera lenses are smaller than DSLR lenses too, making the micro four thirds system cameras an ideal portable option for professional photographers and enthusiasts.  Inside an MFT camera is a sensor that’s 9 times larger than the image sensor found in a typical point and shoot camera, allowing MFT cameras to capture greater detail in particularly difficult and challenging light conditions.

FujiFilm W3 Digital Camera Brings Real 3D To Photography

Posted by SuperStoreSearch Team on Wednesday, 3rd November, 2010.

FujiFilm has launched the world’s first true 3D camera with the FinePix Real 3D W3 digital camera, featuring 3D HD video recording, bringing a new dimension to the world of consumer photography.

FujiFilm had originally launched the world’s first 3D camera in September 2009, but the 3D images were based on interpolated technology, whereas the successor: the FujiFilm FinePix Real 3D W3 Digital Camera offers consumers the chance to capture true 3D images and record 3D HD movies.

The new digital camera is lighter and smaller than the original model, but the W3 packs a bigger screen and offers an auto 3D mode, including an option to connect directly to a 3D HDTV for live or recorded playback of your high definition 3D video recordings.

FujiFilm 3D Camera Technology

The 3D technology used in the FinePix W3 camera is created using FujiFilm’s ongoing method to create Real 3D content by mimicking the human visual system by combining two high quality lens and two CCDs in the one camera chassis.

3D images and video captured using the W3 camera can be viewed in 3D on a big screen 3D TV using the 3D glasses supplied with your TV set.  3D content can also be viewed without 3D glasses on the camera’s built-in 3.5 inch LCD display, or the optional 8 inch 3D digital photo frame.

FujiFilm has also promised that images can be made into special ‘lenticular‘ prints – using a unique printing process that should be available soon in the UK for the first time and in a variety of sizes up to 9″x6″.

How 2D Is Made Better Than 2D

While the novelty of real 3D photos and videos will impress most consumers, FujiFilm reminds us that the FinePix W3 is still a very special 2D camera – because of the double sensors and twin Fujinon lens it incorporates to capture 3D media, it effectively means you are getting 2 cameras in 1 camera body, combined with a powerful and proprietary processor that allows you to shoot two images at once – which opens up a great range of creative possibilities for photographers, such as shooting both a close-up and a wide angle photo, or two different colour balances or taking an image with both a high and low light sensitivity setting.  Simultaneous shooting with variant settings allows for greater creative freedom and will be a warmly received innovation.

The FujiFilm FinePix W3 digital camera has an R.R.P selling price of £399 but can be found slightly cheaper when you compare prices from the main high street shops and online stores.  The FinePix W3 records 3D HD Movies (720p) using two 10 megapixel CCD sensors and two Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens. The simultaneous shooting function also allows for creating special effects in 2D shooting mode.

FUJIFILM Announces FinePix X100 Camera With New Hybrid Viewfinder

Posted by SuperStoreSearch Team on Thursday, 28th October, 2010.

FujiFilm has announced the development of the FinePix X100 digital camera at the Photokina 2010 tradeshow, aimed at professional photographers and keen enthusiasts, featuring a 12.3 Megapixel APS-C CMOS Sensor and an innovative optical and electronic ‘hybrid viewfinder‘.

FujiFilm closely studied the current range of professional grade cameras and felt that there was a significant need for a compact high-quality (APS-C based) camera as a counterpoint to an SLR.  Therefore, the FinePix X100 was  designed to appeal to the many millions of Digital-SLR users that require or could benefit from a slimmer and compact back-up camera for high quality in-fill shots when the use of a bigger SLR camera system may be inconvenient or impractical – or used exclusively as a professional’s only high-end camera, if camera size and versatility are the primary and overriding factors.

Hybrid Viewfinder

An innovative development on the FinePix X100 is the use of an optical and electronic hybrid viewfinder.  Operating like a normal optical viewfinder, but containing a prism and an adjacent lcd screen that can superimpose camera information onto the image and even function as a super high resolution optical finder, with the option to switch between the modes with a hardware based lever on the device.  This allows the FinePix X100 to be used as a traditional camera through the optical finder but with the advantages and functions found in electronic viewfinders.

The Fujifilm FinePix has a 23mm F2 Fujinon (Aspherical) Lens and is expected to cost around £630 ($1000).  The Fujifilm FinePix X100 release date has been set as March 2011.

9 Best Stylish Compact Digital Cameras Under £100

Posted by SuperStoreSearch Team on Sunday, 5th September, 2010.

Advances in camera technology and the broad appeal and popularity of digital cameras has lead to the availability of a wide range of high specification and functional cameras at considerably lower prices.  With some 675 digital cameras to choose from, and over 150 models of digital cameras under £100 you could be spoilt for choice but also a bit bewildered and overwhelmed with so many camera models to filter through – In this camera guide we’ve picked out 9 of the best and most stylish compact digital cameras available under £100.

Panasonic Lumix FP3 Digital Camera

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 is a fashionable compact camera with an ample 14 Megapixel resolution and a 4x optical zoom LUMIX DC VARIO lens with folded optics technology that allows for a futuristic, flat design. A sharp and detailed 3-inch LCD touchscreen on the back allows you to tap on any part of the view that you want to focus on and also includes face detection that can focus on multiple faces in a photo.

The FP3 features Panasonic’s MEGA O.I.S (Optical Image Stabilization) technology which helps suppress blurry images caused by shaky hands and works while recording video too.  There are 23 scene modes to select from, including Sunset and Fireworks Display mode in addition to standard modes like Portrait and Scenery, while an Intelligent Auto mode will automatically select the optimum settings for your pictures without any manual work on your part, which is handy and convenient for camera enthusiasts who just like to point-and-shoot.

One small drawback is that the video mode doesn’t allow you to zoom using the optical lens while recording, however, the video mode does record crisp HD video (1,280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps in Motion JPEG Format).

You can buy the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 for £99.99 in a choice of bold colours: red, blue and violet – there is also a black version but it costs considerably more (currently £142.89).

Canon PowerShot A495 Digital Camera

A 10 Megapixel lightweight compact camera from Canon that is a great buy at £70 (approx) in a choice of 3 colours:  Red, Silver and Blue.  The Canon PowerShot A495 has a 2.5 inch LCD preview screen and offers 3.3x  optical zoom and features a Smart Auto mode and face detection.  Videos are recorded in 30fps VGA quality. The Canon PowerShot A495 is a simple camera that performs well and offers good value for money.

Canon PowerShot A480 Digital Camera

The PowerShot A480 is a 10 Megapixel compact camera by Canon, features a 3.3x optical zoom and includes 11 scene modes and face detection.  The manual controls are somewhat limited but as a point and shoot camera the Canon PowerShot A480 offers great picture quality & value for a reasonable £59.99 in a choice of Silver, Black and Blue – and even a Red model (although it costs nearly double at £118.99).

Casio Exilim EX-Z330 Digital Camera

The Casio Exilim EX-Z330 is an ultra-slim, lightweight compact camera featuring a 12 Megapixel resolution and 3x optical zoom.  A 2.7 inch LCD includes face recognition and there is a high quality built-in flash which  allows you to adjust the flash level.  The Casio Z330 allows you to shoot pictures in a variety of aspect ratios, including 3:2, 4:3 and 16:9 image formats.  There’s HD video recording (720p) and the Z330 also includes a YouTube Capture Mode function.

Buy the Casio Exilim EX-Z330 in Silver or Black, with prices starting from £94.99.

FujiFilm FinePix JX200 Digital Camera

The FujiFilm FinePix JX200 is a light and portable point-and-shoot camera offering 12 Megapixels and a reasonable 5x optical zoom which is generous for a slim camera of this size (23mm thick) – helping you to get closer to distant subjects without degrading the picture quality.  The JX200 has a 28mm wide angle lens which means that you can fit more of the scene into your pictures without having to stand as far back.  This FujiFilm camera offers face detection, 15 scene modes and an adjustable ISO level setting up to 3200 which makes the camera more sensitive to low-light conditions.

There is HD video recording capability and although you can zoom in using the lens while recording, it mutes the sound recording while doing so, which is a slight downside.

A notable feature of the JX200 is the Panorama Shooting Mode which captures 3 consecutive photos and stitches them together to create one wide panoramic photo.

The FujiFilm FinePix JX200 is available to buy for between £81 to £89 in a choice of Black, Silver and Pink.

Nikon Coolpix L22 Digital Camera

The Coolpix L22 is a 12 Megapixel point-and-shoot compact camera by Nikon, available for a reasonably low price of £64 – featuring a large 3-inch LCD screen and 3.6x optical zoom.

Manual control options are somewhat limited with no priority modes for aperture or shutter speed, and ISO levels are handled automatically.  There is a slight delay of over 4 seconds between shooting one picture and the next which can be a disadvantage if shooting a series of photos of a moving subject, however the Coolpix L22 does have a continuous shooting mode, which will shoot up to 5 pictures, with one shot captured every second.   Images are taken starting from a limited lens wide angle of 37mm which means you may have to stand further back than usual to fit more scenery and objects into the picture, if you are taking a photo of a large group of people for example.  Videos are recorded in standard definition quality (zoom is unavailable while recording).

However, despite some of these limitations, the Coolpix L22 does represent value from Nikon – a trusted photography brand and offers good picture quality and decent all around performance even in low light conditions. There’s face detection and 16 scene modes, including Smile mode and Blink Warning which can help you shoot the perfect portrait, with smiling faces and open eyes.

The Nikon Coolpix L22 runs on standard AA batteries and is available to buy in Silver, Black and Red for about £64 – making it an affordable and compact point and shoot camera choice.

Nikon Coolpix S3000 Digital Camera

The Nikon Coolpix S3000 is a simple but stylish and sleek slimline and lightweight pocket sized camera measuring 19mm thick, with a 12 Megapixel sensor and 4x optical zoom, with built in flash and red eye reduction.  The Coolpix S3000 boasts a 27mm ultra wide angle lens, which allows you to capture a wider view of the scene into each shot.  There’s 16 scene modes to choose from, face detection and a selectable ISO level upto 3200 for extra sensitivity in low light scenes.  Videos are recorded in standard definition however, but there is a 2.7 inch lcd preview screen and the Nikon Coolpix S3000 is available to buy in a range of 7 flashy colours: Red, Green, Blue, Orange, Silver, Black and Purple – currently priced at £89.37.

Samsung PL80 Digital Camera

The Samsung PL80 is a trendy and slim point-and-shoot camera offering 12 Megapixels and 5x optical zoom with a 2.7 inch LCD screen.  A Smart Auto picture mode will automatically select from 15 different scene modes to get the optimum picture settings for your photos. The PL80 from Samsung has a 28mm wide angle lens that lets you capture wider views and deeper perspectives in each shot.  The Samsung PL80 has face detection and a high sensitivity ISO 3200 level setting (ISO 3200 up to 3M).

Buy the Samsung PL80 digital camera in a choice of 3 colours: with a current price range between £90.63 for the Black model, and £99 for the Red and Purple versions.

Pentax Optio H90 Digital Camera

The Pentax Optio H90 has a functional and distinguished 2-tone colour contrast design that makes it stand out among the compact digital cameras range.  Featuring a 12 Megapixels sensor combined with a 5x optical zoom and an ultra wide angle 28mm lens. The Pentax H90 has a 2.7 inch lcd preview screen and includes face recognition and 19 scene modes with pre-defined camera settings which are optimum for shooting photos in specific scenes, such as a candlelit environment or a fireworks display show – there’s also a Smile Capture mode and Blink Detection function to help you capture perfect portraits.  The Optio H90 has a high sensitivity ISO Rating 80 to 6400, and although the optical zoom setting can’t be adjusted while recording in movie mode, however it does allow for 720p high definition video recording (1280×720 pixels, 30 fps).

A Panoramic Stitching feature enables users to shoot 3 separate photos which are then combined together to create one wide perspective panoramic photo view.

Overall the Pentax Optio H90 is a simple but trendy and good value buy which includes some features and specifications typically found in cameras with a higher price range.
